Weekly Reminders - 3/28/11

* There are 2 weeks remaining before Report Card distribution.
* All assignments must be completed and hand in on due date.
* Parents please check your child's assignment book for scheduled homework and tests.
* Friday April 1st, 2011 is 11:30 dismissal.
* Proper uniform must be worn unless permission is given by Mr. Woods or the child's teacher.

Weekly Vocabulary Words - 3/28/11

1. cleavage – the tendency of a mineral to break along flat surfaces.

2. meander – bends or s-shaped curves in a river.

3. aquifer – an underground layer of rock or soil filled with water.

4. seamount – a huge underwater volcanic mountain that may emerge from the ocean surface as an island.

5. smog – a mixture of smoke and fog.

Weekly Reminders - 3/21/11

* Proper uniform MUST be worn. No boots, sneakers, or scarves. Boys must wear tie and belt on pants. Girls must wear proper vest, stockings, and school shoes. Only school sweaters permitted.

* All electronic devices are collected each morning and returned to students at dismissal.

* Notebooks and pencils are being collected for the poor in Dominican Republic.

* There is also a collection jar at Alba's office.

* Please review your child's assignment book for homework, upcoming tests and any changes for the week.

Weekly Vocabulary Words 3/21/11

1. Currency – paper money with a specified value, issued by the government or a central bank
2. Deciduous – type of tree that loses its leaves during portions of the year, usually beginning in the autumn months.
3. Innovation – a newly introduced idea, inventions or way of doing things that changes the world.
4. Interdependence – people relying on each other in different places or in the same place for ideas, goods, and services.
5. Miranda Rule – an arresting officer’s requirements to inform criminal suspects of their rights before questioning.

  2. caldera A large, bowl-shaped depression formed when the top of a volcano collapses into the emptied magma chamber.
  3. bedrock The solid, or continuous, rock that extends into Earth’s interior.
  4. dew Liquid water that forms by condensation on cold surface.

  • Malleable- Able to be hammered into thin sheets
  • Ductile- Able to be drawn out to a fine wire
  • Graduated Cylinder- A scientific tool used to measure the volume of a liquid
  • Thrust- A pushing force, usually generated by an engine, that moves a vehicle forward (or backward)
