Weekly Vocabulary Words - 2/28/11


1. xylem – the tissue through which water and minerals move up through
a plant
2. phloem – the tissue through which food from the leaves moves down through the rest of a plant
3. cambium – the layer in plants that separates the xylem from the phloem.
4. Isobar - a line on a weather map connecting places with equal air pressure.
5. epidermis – an outermost layer of such plant parts as roots and leaves

Weekly Vocabulary Words - 2/21/11

  • asteroid - a rock or minor planet that revolves around the sun
  • comet - a small, frozen mass of dust and gas revolving around the sun
  • eclipse - the blocking of our view of a body in space caused by the earth’s shadow or another body
  • meteor - when a chunk of rock or debris enters the atmosphere and burns up; a shooting star
  • planet - a body orbiting around a star

Weekly Announcements - 2/14/11

2/14 - Valentine's Day - Students are allowed to wear red. See school blog.

* Please note that tests are scheduled for certain dates. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, test may have to be rescheduled.
* It is important that notebooks and assignment pads are checked daily for assignments and tests.
* Parents it is time to make appointments to check on your child's progress. It is imperative that you check SIS frequently.

Weekly Vocabulary Word - 2/7/11

1. Tariff – tax on foreign goods brought into a country. An official schedule of taxes
imposed by a government on imports or exports

2. Taxes – required payments of money made to governments by households and business
firms.

3. Theory – a set of principle that can be used to make inferences about the world.

4. Urbanization – a process in which there is an increase in the percentage of people
living/working in cities and towns.

5. Vigilante - One who takes or advocates the taking of law enforcement into one's own
hands.
