Reminders - Week of 11/1/10

Students in grades 5, 6, 7, 8, will be given tests in Science and Social Studies this week. Parents must check student's assignment book for dates. It is important that books are taken home to study. Study questions and notes will be given in class. Tests will be schedule when lessons are successfully completed. Therefore, dates will not be determined beforehand.

Weekly Vocabualry Words - 11/8/10

1. Ethical consideration – a set of moral standards that is a factor when making decisions
or judgments.

2.Federal – anything pertaining to the national government, but not the state or local
government

3.Filibuster - The use of obstructionist tactics, especially prolonged speechmaking, for
the purpose of delaying legislative action

4. Genocide – the extermination of a cultural or racial group.

5. Demography – the study that emphasizes statistics to look at human population
distribution, population density, and trends in population

Vocabulary Words - 10/25/10

1. Grid - a pattern of horizontal and vertical lines forming squares of uniform size on a map or chart.

2. Helium - a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas (Helium becomes a liquid near absolute zero. Liquid helium is used to cool Jefferson Lab's accelerator components.)

3. HTML - an acronym for HyperText Markup Language; the programming language or code used for the creation of internet web pages.

4. Kelvin - a temperature scale that begins at absolute zero, where there is no molecular movement (Water freezes at 273 K and boils at 373 K.)

5. Laboratory - a place equipped for scientific research, experiments or testing.

Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances, tests and assignments may have to be rescheduled. Students will be notified and is require to write the changes in their assignment books. Time constraints may not allow me to update my blog. Students are responsible to have updates and events written in their assignment books when given in class.

HOMEWORK:
10/28 - On LL - Draw a picture and write a description of what happens from the time a sky diver jumps out of a plane until the time he or she lands on the ground. You must use the following words in your descriptions: free fall; terminal velocity; air resistance; gravity; and acceleration due to gravity. Indicate when during the trip the forces on the sky diver are balanced and when they are unbalanced.
