Weekly Vocabulary Words - 9/26/11

1.  Lithosphere - the outer part of the earth, consisting of the crust and upper mantle, approximately 100km (62 miles)

2.  Epoch - a division of geologic time that is a division of a period.

3.  Biosphere - the part of the earth and its atmosphere in which living organisms exist or is capable of supporting life.

4. Electromagnetic Radiation - energy transferred by radiation, especially by an electromagnetic wave.

5.  Sound - the sensation stimulated in the organs of hearing by such vibrations in the air or other medium.

Weekly Vocabulary Words - 9/19/11

1.  Homeostasis - the ability or tendency of an organism or cell to maintain internal equilibrium by adjusting its physiological process.

2.  Carbohydrates - any of a group of organic compounds that includes sugars, starches, celluloses, gums and serves as a major energy source in the diet of animals.

3.  Organ System - a group of organs that work together to perform a certain task.

4.  Chemical Reaction - a process that involves changes in the structure and energy content of atoms. molecules, or ions but not in their nuclei.

5.  Motion - the act or process of changing position or place.

9/20 - Write chemical equations.  Reactions will be given in class on 9/19.
9/21 - Write out the verse from John 15:1-8.  Infer how it is similar to the Law of Conservation.
9/23 - Math - A chemical reaction is proceeding at a rate of 2 g of product per 45 s.  How long will it take to obtain 50 g of product from the reaction?  Remember that to solve the problem you measure how much product forms or how much reactant is used up in a certain amount of time. Then divide the amount of reactant or product by the time.

For Tuesday-bring in a food that is in a package (like crackers, etc), a canned and bottled food product.
