Monday 8th, 2008

AIM: p. S1 - To describe how scientists use the methods of science in their work.

PROCEDURE: Students will learn the inquiry skills scientists’ use.
1. Observe 2. Infer 3. Classify 4. Measure
5. Use numbers 6. Communicate 7. Predict 8. Interpret Data
9. Form a Hypothesis 10. Use variables 11. Make a model

HOMEWORK: On loose-leaf, write a paragraph (6 Sentences) on how you can use these skills
in your life.


Tuesday 9th, 2008

AIM: p. S1 - How to think like a scientist?

PROCEDURE: Students will imagine that they are scientists observing the volcano on p. S1.
Questions based on the volcano on p. S1: As a scientist, what can you tell by observation?
What tools could you use to investigate the scene?
What question might a scientist have about the scene?

HOMEWORK: On loose-leaf, answer the following question: Why do scientists need
reading, math, writing, and technology skills?


Wednesday 10th, 2008

5TH GRADE GYM PERIOD – NO SCIENCE CLASSES


Thursday 11th, 2008 (Mass @ 9:00am)

AIM: p. S2 -3 - What is the Scientific Method?

PROCEDURE: Students will copy the steps of the Scientific Method.
Students will use the photograph on p. S2 & 3 to reinforce the idea that we
learn from what we see and interpret.

HOMEWORK: Observation: In NB, use your five senses to lean about an object of
your choice.
List your observation of the object.


Friday 12th, 2008

AIM: p. S4 – 5 - Students will learn how to compare and contrast.

PURPOSE/ACTIVITY: Students will be given two objects and will be asked the following?
How are two things alike? How are two things different?
Write a hypothesis as to why they have that shape, size, and color.

HOMEWORK: Write the result and conclusion for this activity.
