On 10/30/09, the ASP will be having a Halloween Party from 2:30PM - 6:00PM. ASP students pays $2:00 and non-ASP students pays $5:00.

Parents Weekly Notification

Parents,
Please be reminded that your child will be bringing home test papers this week. ALL test papers must be signed and return to teacher. Weekly vocabulary words were listed on last week's blog (see 10/19/09 blog). It is important that all homework are reviewed and check by you even if it was completed during the ASP. If you need to speak to me, please make an appointment with Alba @ 212-567-3190. Please do not call or come in during the ASP to ask how your child is doing. I need to check grades, homework, and classwork before meeting with parents.

Trout in the Classroom 2009-2010

OLQM has been part of TIC for the last 6 years. TIC is a program where trout eggs are given to authorized school to grow for a year. The eggs become fry and are released in a TIC licensed lake in upstate New York. This year OLQM was fortunate to obtain 600 eggs. The seminar took place on 10/13/09 in Poughkeepsie, New York where classes and workshops were given to teachers to ensure the proper caring and survival of the trouts. On the right are photographs showing some of the activites that took place.

To Parents/Students of grades 5,6,7,8.

It is important that you check your child's daily school work and homework. Many students are coming to school without or incomplete homework. Test dates are given in class and students are expected to write it in their assignment books. However, parents are not aware when tests are given. Test papers are sent home and coming back to the teachers without parent's signatures. It is your responsibiltiy to make sure that all necessary paper work and homework is completed neatly and on time. A weekly vocabulary quiz is given every Friday. Vocabulary words are on the blog and is given to the students on Mondays. Report cards will be distributed the second week of November. I ask that you please keep up with your child's school work and progress.

1. CATALYST - a substance that speeds up a chemical reaction but doesn't appear in the chemical equation because it is not permanently changed or used up.
2. INHIBITOR - a substance that slows down a chemical reaction.
