8th Science - 11/30/15 - 12/4/15

12/2 - Research the following: Why might it be easier to predict where an earthquake will occur than it is to predict when it will occur? 1-2 pages written or typed.


12/4 - In NB - Write out questions and answer in complete sentences
What are tectonic plates?
What are faults?
What relationships do tectonic plates and faults have with earthquakes?
What is the Richter scale? What do the numbers on the Richter scale mean?

7th Science - 11/30/15 - 12/4/15

12/1 - On LL - How can the body defend itself against diseases? Explain.


12/4/15 - Research about the body's immune system and how it protects us from foreign substances. Next, research how vaccines work together with the immune system by helping the body create antibodies (cells that fight bacteria and viruses). State how bodies can sometimes create antibodies themselves without vaccines. Create diagrams or models of the human body to depict how vaccines work with the immune system.  

6th Science and Social Studies - 11/30/15 - 12/4/15

SCIENCE:

12/2 - On LL. -
Find the area where you live on the map. Is it an area that is subject to earthquakes? Why or why not? Look at places around the country where you may have friends or family, or places you may have previously lived. Do earthquakes occur in these areas? Why or why not?

12/4 - In Notebook: Write out questions and answer in complete sentences.
What are the three major types of fault boundaries?
How do the plates move relative to each other at each of these boundaries?

Which boundaries do you think produce the most earthquakes?

a) car suddenly stops and you strain against the seat belt b) when riding a horse, the horse suddenly stops and you fly over its head

11/17 - VOCABULARY: IN NB


1. core : The central  of the Earth below the mantle, consisting of iron and nickel.
Context: In the center is the yellow core of the planet, a mass of hot liquid iron and nickel.

2. mantle : The layer of the Earth between the crust and the core.
Context: The white of the egg represents a layer of hot rock called the mantle.

 3. crust : The exterior portion of the Earth that lies above the Mohorovicic discontinuity.
Context: The eggshell is the earth's crust.

4. tectonic plates : Structural features that construct the Earth, consisting of interlocking pieces of land. Context: The Earth is made up of interlocking pieces of land, called tectonic


11/24 -Research a famous volcanic eruption in history and describe the eruption scientifically, explaining the type of eruption and its long-term effects on the environment, as well as its effects on human life.
 2 pages typed, double space, black ink, 1 inch margins on all sides, 12 font, reference sheet.
