Weekly Reminders - 1/16/12

ANOTHER REMINDER THAT SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS ARE DUE THIS WEEK!  
Project topics were approved in November.  Students were told in November and December that projects were due the first week of January. (see blog).  
 

Weekly Vocabulary words for Mid-Year Exam - 1/16//12


1.  Power - The rate at which energy is supplied.
2.  Kinetic energy - Energy stored in the motion of a mechanical system--e.g. by a rolling car, or a turning flywheel.
3.  Energy - Ability to perform work, i.e. to advance against resistance, for instance lift a body against gravity, or drag it against friction.
4.  Weight - The force exerted on mass by gravity.
5.  Velocity - Rate of position change.  Or the rate and direction of the change in the position of an object.
6.   Conductor- A material through which heat passes easily 
7.  Insulator- A material through which heat does not pass easily.  
8.  Conduction- The transfer of energy through matter (solids) by the direct contact of  the particles.  
9. Convection- The transfer of energy in a fluid by the movement of the heated particles.  
10.    Radiation- The transfer of energy through space by electromagnetic waves.
