How to set up your Science Fair Board or Power-Point

Students must use the Scientific Methods:

Purpose:  (Must be in the form of a questions)

Hypothesis: (Prediction of outcome/result)

Materials:  (Materials needed for experiment)

Procedure: (Steps that must be followed)

Data/Application: (pictures, charts, research, how it applies to our lives)

Result:  (Result of the experiment)

Conclusion: (Summary of experiment/project.  States whether hypothesis was supported or not supported).

ANOTHER REMINDER THAT SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS ARE DUE THIS WEEK!  
Project topics were approved in November.  Students were told in November and December that projects were due the first week of January. (see blog).  
 

Weekly Vocabulary words for Mid-Year Exam - 1/16//12


1.  Power - The rate at which energy is supplied.
2.  Kinetic energy - Energy stored in the motion of a mechanical system--e.g. by a rolling car, or a turning flywheel.
3.  Energy - Ability to perform work, i.e. to advance against resistance, for instance lift a body against gravity, or drag it against friction.
4.  Weight - The force exerted on mass by gravity.
5.  Velocity - Rate of position change.  Or the rate and direction of the change in the position of an object.
6.   Conductor- A material through which heat passes easily 
7.  Insulator- A material through which heat does not pass easily.  
8.  Conduction- The transfer of energy through matter (solids) by the direct contact of  the particles.  
9. Convection- The transfer of energy in a fluid by the movement of the heated particles.  
10.    Radiation- The transfer of energy through space by electromagnetic waves.

Week of 1/9/12

- Students need to bring in their Science Fair projects. (see note from 1/4/12).

- 1/10/12 - Mid-Term in Science and Religion.  (See Monthly Calendar that was sent home on 1/4)
All Unit 1 and Unit 11 exams, including home-works, quizzes, and class-works, were sent home on 1/4/12.  Students also have all the notes in their NB. 

- Lesson Plan for students in grades 5-8.
Students will be reviewing for Mid-Term this entire week.

- There will be no vocabulary words for this week.   However, students will have a Mid-Year vocabulary test the following week based on words from September to December

- REMINDER: It is very important that students bring in their Science Projects.  Week of 1/9/12- 1/20/12.  Students will be graded on: Homework, Project, Participation, and Test.  (4 grades). Students SHOULD NOT wait for the last 2 days to bring in their projects.    In December, students were told that projects were due this week.

1/13/12 (Friday) - 12:00 Dismissal.  There is After-School.

This year's theme is Life Science
Week of 1/9/11 - 1/20/11 - Grades 5-8- Science Fair Projects due.
Students are reminded not to wait for last minute to do their projects.  Time is limited.  Students who wait for the last day may not be able to complete their experiment.  Project ideas were given in for approval the first 2 weeks of December. Therefore, students who gave in their project ideas, already know what they need to have done.
