5th SCIENCE - WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 15, 2008

Monday 15th, 2008 - Chapter 12

AIM: p. E4 – E8 – What is matter and the various properties of matter?

PROPERTIES: Students will be asked to describe a desk and a pencil in as much detail as
possible, using sight, smell, touch and hearing.
Students will compare and contrast the properties of each object, including
size, weight and color.

HOMEWORK: Lesson 1 vocabulary words in NB.

Tuesday 16th, 2008

AIM: p. E6 –E7 What is difference between mass and weight?

PROCEDURE: Students will learn that how to measure mass and weight.
The role gravity plays in determining weight.

HOMEWORK: WB p. 271 questions 1-14 in NB.

PROCEDURE: Students will learn how to test the quality of water in the Hudson River and
Harlem River.

Written paragraph (6 sentences) on the importance of testing our water

AIM: p. E8 -E9 - What is density

PURPOSE/ACTIVITY: Students will measure different objects to determine why some objects
float and some sink.

HOMEWORK: Complete Lab Sheet if not completed in class.
