AIM: p. G2 & 3 - To explain why understanding geography is important.

PROCEDURE: Students will consider how each of the five themes of geography relates to
their local area.

HOMEWORK: Write a letter to a friend that describes the place in which you live. LL

Wednesday 10th, 2008

AIM: p. G4 & 5 – To describe a globe.
To demonstrate why a globe can be a useful tool.
To explain how using a globe is different from using a map.

PROCEDURE: Students will learn how globes show us Earth’s actual shape and where land
masses and oceans are located.
Students will look at a globe and comment on their observation.

HOMEWORK: In NB, draw a sphere and divide it into four parts.


Thursday 11th, 2008

AIM: Review word wall.
p. G6 & 7 – Exploring the use of maps.

PROCEDURE: Students will learn the cardinal directions.
How to find directions on a map.
What is a scale and how it can used.

HOMEWORK: Study for quiz on 9/12/08

AIM: Word Wall Quiz
Introduction to Document Based Questions.

PROCEDURE: To help students achieve an understanding of the strategies they should
employ to answer essay questions.
Students will learn how to retrieve information from DBQ maps, pictures,
charts, and stories. (Scottforesman.com).

HOMEWORK: Complete required paragraph for DBQ.
