5th SOCIAL STUDIES - WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 22nd, 2008

Monday 22nd, 2008 – Lesson 2

AIM: p. 12 - Describe the form of government in the United States.

PROCEDURE: Students will describe the U.S. government orally.
Students will understand the role people play in a democracy.

HOMEWORK: Define lesson 2 vocabulary words in NB.
Study notes and vocabulary words for test on 9/25/08

Tuesday 23rd, 2008

AIM: p. 13 – To compare the roles of federal, state, and local government.

PROCEDURE: Students will think of services that the government provides for its citizen.
Continue DBQ essay

HOMEWORK: 5 questions will be given at the end of class to be completed on LL

Wednesday 24th, 2008

AIM: p. 14 -15 – To examine some of the rights and responsibilities of United States citizens.

PROCEDURE: Students will talk about the rights and responsibilities they have at school.
Students will describe some of the ways that citizens take part in government.

HOMEWORK: 4 questions will be given in class to be completed on LL.

Thursday 25th, 2008

AIM: p. 18 – Why is it important to understand history?

PROCEDURE: Students will recognize that history includes the stories of ordinary people as
well as those people who are famous.
Students will share some of their own stories passed down from family
members.

HOMEWORK: Lesson 3 vocabulary words in NB.

Friday 26th, 2008

AIM: To compare primary and secondary sources as information sources.

PROCEDURE: Students will learn primary and secondary sources make up most historical
events.

HOMEWORK: Complete DBQ essay.
