SCIENCE: 7th grade - Week of September 8th, 2008

Monday 8th, 2008 – Chapter 1

AIM: Lesson 1 – p. 6-13 - Discuss examples of how science is a part of our everyday life.
Describe the skills used in science.

PROCEDURE: Students will discuss what they have read or heard on the news bout E coli and
the recent hurricanes affecting the USA.
Oral reading and discussion.

HOMEWORK: Chapter 1 vocabulary words in NB.


Tuesday 9th, 2008

AIM: Review word wall.
p. 9 - Why is using prior knowledge an important tool in solving problems.

PROCEDURE: Oral reading and discussion on using prior knowledge.
Explain why scientists need to obtain background information.

HOMEWORK: Use a prior experience to predict a solution to a problem.


Wednesday 10th, 2008 – Lesson 2

AIM: Review word wall.
p. 14-18 - Explain the use of the Scientific Method.

PROCEDURE: Students will learn the steps scientists follow to solve problems.
Students will use past experiments using the Scientific Method.

HOMEWORK: Students will formulate an experiment using the Scientific Method.
QUIZ – chapter 1 vocabulary words on 9/12/08


Thursday 11th, 2008 (Mass @9:00am)

AIM: Review Word Wall
p. 19 -26 – How a well-designed experiment is developed.

PROCEDURE: Oral reading and notes
Describe the steps taken in planning an experiment.

HOMEWORK: Powerpoint on Louis Pasteur (due 9/19/08)
Study for quiz on 9/12/08


Friday 12th, 2008

AIM: Quiz on Chapter 1 vocabulary words.
Activity: Explore Activity p. 5-

PURPOSE: Why scientists use tools to measure information.

HOMEWORK: Complete lab sheet.
Review chapter 2 vocabulary words.
