6TH SCIENCE - WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2008

Monday 15th, 2008 – Chapter 9

AIM: p. E4 – To identify the physical properties of matter.

PROCEDURE: Students will explore how different substances float on top of each other.
Define lesson 1 vocabulary words.

HOMEWORK: Re-write the vocabulary words and definition in NB.


Tuesday 16th, 2008

AIM: p. E7 – How does the density of an object determine whether or not it floats?

PROCEDURE: Students will learn what is mass, volume, and density.
Students will find the density of objects by finding the mass and volume.

HOMEWORK: WB p. 229 on LL – questions and answers
Bring in 4 plastic cups, cubes of sugar, butter, chocolate, and bouillon on

AIM: p. E8 – E9 – What are physical properties?
What are some examples of physical properties?

PROCEDURE: Students will use their five senses to describe and identify the properties
(things) around them. Students will examine a can of soda and write their observation on what states of matter they observe.
Students will hypothesized what will happen to a can of sod left outside in the winter.

HOMEWORK: Study vocab. Words.
Write up a summary of what they learned about the physical properties on LL.


Friday 19th, 2008

AIM/PROJECT: Lesson 1 vocabulary quiz.
How does the volume and weight affect an object’s ability to float?

PROCEDURE: Students will test and experiment on the properties of matter.

HOMEWORK: Review lesson 2 vocabulary words
