PROCEDURE: Students will recall that mass is a measure of the amount of matter that makes up an object and learn that in the model of an atom most of the mass is made up of tiny particles.

AIM: p. 47 – What is the nucleus of an atom?

PROCEDURE: Oral reading, notes and discussion on the atom.

AIM: Chapter 2 vocabulary test.
What is the process of radioactive decay?

PROCEDURE: Students will understand that isotopes are atoms of the same elements that have
different number of neutrons.

HOMEWORK: Copy chart on p. 48 – Isotopes of Carbon

AIM: p.48 -What is transmutation and how does it lead to another element?

PROCEDURE: Students will learn that the ejecting of particles from the nucleus changes into
another element.
